Dolpo Tomorrow was founded in 2013 and officially registered in 2014 by a group of youths from Chharka, Dolpo, with the primary aim of supporting Chharka Bhot Basic School to ensure education for the children of its hometown and surrounding communities. We are a non-profit, non-governmental, non-political, community-based social welfare organization registered under the Government of Nepal with registration number 209/071/072. Additionally, we are affiliated with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal under affiliation number 53775.
We envision creating a better tomorrow for the community of Dolpo by encouraging self-reliance through sustainable development projects. We believe that educating children is the most effective way to empower a community for sustainable, self-reliant, and self-determined development. Since 2014, we have been running and improving Chharka Bhot Basic School (CBS), the community school of our hometown. In addition, we undertake various development projects to uplift the communities, including providing public healthcare, supporting basic infrastructure developments, and motivating communities for nature conservation and culture preservation.
Ensure access to cost-free, inclusive, and quality education for the children of the Dolpo region.
Provide access to better healthcare services to the communities.
Empower the communities to improve their living quality and eradicate poverty in all its forms.
Enable better access to sustainable modern facilities.
Preserve and promote local culture, language, and values.
Increase awareness among the communities to conserve and manage the environment and natural resources.
The International Community Development Foundation (ICDF), the founding NGO of Chharka Bhot School (CBS), has been a primary donor for CBS for over two decades. In collaboration with Leona Masson, they revived CBS in 2003, constructed the first school building, and provided other essential resources. 2023 marks ICDF’s 20 years of unwavering support for CBS. Since 2003, ICDF has consistently funded salaries for two teachers, a coordinator, and a cook, dedicated to sustaining the school for the children of Chharka. Additionally, they sponsor a full scholarship for college education for a student from the first batch of CBS, exemplifying ICDF’s long-term vision and commitment to empowering the community through education.
Our mission to enhance Chharka Bhot School’s (CBS) infrastructure gained momentum in 2018 when Bambusschule e.V. (BS) collaborated with us through Chay Ya’s coordination. They provided funding for the construction of eight new classrooms, including a three-room passive solar house, and a perimeter wall to enclose the school grounds. This project, executed in cooperation with Chay Ya, commenced in 2018 and reached completion in 2023. Additionally, they financed the equipping of essential amenities such as furniture, bedding facilities, computers, and kitchen utensils for the school. In collaboration with the German Embassy, BS financed the construction of a school washhouse, completed in 2022. In 2023, through a partnership with Schmitz-Stiftung, Germany, BS funded the construction of compost toilets for 73 households in Chharka. BS is now one of our primary donors, crucial for Chharka Bhot School and our other projects in Chharka. They support us by funding the salaries of two teachers to sustain the school, exclusively funding our Kathmandu Winter School program and healthcare project in Chharka. With ongoing support from BS, we are currently constructing a health post in Chharka and planning to build a kitchen building for CBS.
Chay Ya played a crucial role in supporting our initiative to develop Chharka Bhot School (CBS) and launch a water project in Chharka. In collaboration with Chay Ya, we successfully executed a project to construct eight new classrooms, including a three-room passive solar house and a compound wall funded by Bambusschule e.V for CBS. This project, initiated in 2018, reached full completion in 2022. Additionally, with funding from Dany Gerhig and Chay Ya Switzerland, Chay Ya Nepal partnered with us to implement a water project in Chharka, ensuring a safe drinking water supply for the entire village and the school, which was fully realized in 2022. Furthermore, Chay Ya Switzerland, through Chay Ya Nepal, provided funding for the construction of two greenhouse vegetable gardens for the school, one in 2018 and the other in 2021.
Nepalhilfe Beilngries e.V., Germany, is financing our project to build a Rockwool Thermal-Insulated Passive Solar House school building for Chharka Bhot School (CBS). The building comprises four classrooms, a common passive solar corridor, and an extension power station room housing a 3-kilowatt solar power plant that supplies electricity to the entire school premises. This initiative commenced in 2020 and reached completion in 2023. With their ongoing funding, we are currently working to convert the building into a hostel by equipping it with necessary interior equipment such as bunk beds, tables, benches, storage cabinets, blankets, and mattresses. Additionally, thanks to their support, we are planning to pave the front yards and passages of this and other buildings at the school, creating a clean and mud-free environment.
Since 2019, Himalaya Currents Inc. has generously contributed a significant annual donation to sustain Chharka Bhot School (CBS). These funds are utilized for hiring teachers, ensuring the continuous operation and growth of CBS. Furthermore, in 2019 and 2022, respectively, they installed a solar-wind hybrid power plant at CBS, a similar one at the community health post, and solar energy systems for two community monasteries in Chharka. Himalaya Currents Inc. extends its assistance to the Dolpo community through the implementation of sustainable hydro, wind, and solar energy plants.
Save-Tibet, Austria, has been a dedicated donor for Chharka Bhot School (CBS) since 2019, consistently providing annual funds to hire a qualified teacher for the school’s academic program. The connection between Save-Tibet and Dolpo Tomorrow was established in 2019 when our founder and Chairman, Tsering Samdup, met with their members in Vienna, Austria, during his trip to Europe. Thanks to their steadfast funding, we have been able to employ an academic supervisor to lead the school’s academic program for over four consecutive years now, making a significant impact on the delivery of quality education.
