A beacon of education on the roof of the world, educating the children of one of the remotest regions globally
Welcome to Chharka Bhot Basic School (CBS), a school nestled in one of the highest reaches of the world, dedicated to educating children in one of the most remote regions. CBS is a public school situated in the village of Chharka, at an altitude of 4300 meters in the eastern part of the Dolpo region within the Dolpa district, western Nepal. It is committed to providing cost-free, quality education to the children of Chharka (Tsharka) and nearby villages. Dolpo Tomorrow supports the community in operating and enhancing this school with financial assistance from various sponsoring NGOs and individual donors.
Dolpo Tomorrow has been sustaining the school since 2014 to the present by recruiting around a dozen teaching staff and providing educational supplies every year. Furthermore, we have also been enhancing its infrastructure. Over the last decade, we transformed the school from nearly nothing to a comprehensive infrastructure hosting more than 80 students and a dozen school staff.
Established by the government in 1975, the school, formerly known as Shree Narayan Gopal School and later renamed Chharka Bhot School, underwent a period of inactivity for over four decades. In 2003, the school experienced a revival when ICDF and Loena Mason joined forces to breathe new life into it, constructing the first school building and equipping teachers with educational supplies to run the school effectively. The transformative journey of the school gained momentum in 2014 when Dolpo Tomorrow assumed the responsibility of operating and enhancing the school. Collaborating with various NGOs and donors, Dolpo Tomorrow transformed the school into a thriving educational institution, ensuring a brighter future for the children of Chharka and nearby surrounding villages.
