Exclusively sponsored by Die Bambusschule e.V and implemented by Dolpo Tomorrow, the Chharka Community Health Project (CCHP) is dedicated to providing essential healthcare services to the people of Chharka and the surrounding communities through a health post staffed by a nurse and equipped with medical supplies for six months annually.
The key activities undertaken by the health project to achieve its goal of improving the health conditions of the people of Dolpo include:
– Basic health services
– Emergency care and services
– Home visit services (for those unable to walk or visit the health post)
– Monthly health check-ups for Chharka Bhot School students
– Personal hygiene classes for students
– Distribution of health kits
– De-worming programs
– Awareness programs, with a special focus on women’s and children’s health
– Outreach programs for nomads and surrounding villages
Healthcare, encompassing physical, mental, and social well-being, is recognized as a fundamental human right in Nepal. However, a large number of disadvantaged people in rural areas still suffer from preventable diseases, with women and children from underserved communities bearing a particularly high burden of preventable disease and death. Geographically isolated from government services and support, communities in Dolpo, including Charka, rely on traditional herbal medical practices.
Following a visit to Charka in 2019, Bodo, the chairman of Bambus Schule e.V., returned with a vision to provide access to basic healthcare for the community of Charka. This vision materialized as the Charka Community Healthcare Project, initiated in 2021 amid the Covid-19 pandemic, with a staff nurse and essential medical supplies. In 2021 and 2022, the health post operated at Chharka Bhot School, utilizing a shared room for the staff nurse and medical supplies. Currently, we are constructing a separate health post building consisting of three rooms and a toilet, funded by Bambus Schule e.V. The construction is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2024, and the health post will be relocated to the new building.
